Cycle skills in Primary 5WS

18th May 2022

Today some of our class brought their bikes to school and went outside with Miss Service to have a ‘Cycle skills’ lesson.

First of all we learned how to safety check our bikes using the ‘ABCD’ check, that’s the air, brakes, chain and drop test. Then Miss Service checked that we could all cycle in a straight line, going both fast and slow, before teaching us all how to make an emergency stop correctly. We then played a fun game of ‘Bike quoits’ where we got practise and use our emergency stop.

Following this we practised cycling one handed and discussed how we would use this to indicate where we are going to other road users. Some of us were a little wobbly to begin with but we soon got the hang of it!

We finished off our session with a fun game of ‘Last man standing.’ Jake was the winner, with Chloe L a very close second. Well done Jake!

At the end Miss Service gave us a few minutes free time to have a cycle around the playground. We all had a great time!
