Stepping Back In Time In Primary 3

7th Oct 2021

We are currently learning all about ‘Fire’ and as part of our topic we have been learning all about Arthur Cottage in Cullybackey and how important fire was in those days. In previous years we have been able to visit Arthur Cottage but due to covid restrictions this wasn’t possible this year. So in Camphill we decided that we would bring Arthur Cottage to school!

Our caretaker Andy and classroom assistant Charlotte organised a little cottage out in our quiet garden. Charlotte had gathered lots of items that would have been used in those days. We had a peat fire, a crane and griddle, old irons and we even got to taste some soda bread, potato bread and pancakes. We loved tasting these foods that would have been cooked on the griddle in Arthur Cottage over the fire. A huge thank you to Andy for setting up our little cottage and organising all of the bread and toasting it for us. Also a huge thank you to Charlotte for going to so much effort and for dressing up! We all had a great morning and enjoyed this special experience so much! Take a look at some of our pictures below.
