Science experiments in P7AMπŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬βš—οΈπŸ₯ΌπŸ§«

4th Feb 2026

This afternoon, we carried out two science experiments in class!

Experiment 1: Tin foil boats

We used a square piece of tin foil to construct a boat of our own designs before testing if it would float. If successful, we began placing pennies to see how much weight it could hold before taking on water, capsizing or sinking. We had such a variety of designs. Heidi was our most successful boat maker, with her boar holding 34 pennies before it began taking on water. Well done, Heidi!

Experiment 2: Dead Sea Floats

We have been learning about the Dead Sea and it’s very high salt content. We have learnt that if you were to enter the Dead Sea that you can float on its surface due to the salt creating a buoyancy! Working in groups we made a salt solution and tried to see if we could get an egg to float. After experimenting with our salt solutions and getting them to contain enough salt, we were all successful in getting our eggs to float!

What a fun afternoon we had πŸ‘©‍πŸ”¬πŸ‘¨‍πŸ”¬
