P7RA Visit Ulster-American Folk Park

18th Oct 2018

Our class joined P7AS on a trip to Omagh on the 9th October. We were learning about Life, Famine and Emigration in 19th century Ireland, to link in with our World Around Us topic on Hunger. On the Ulster side of the park, we saw a single room dwelling as well as gradually better quality houses and also visited a weaver's cottage and saw how a printing office worked. We even had a Campbell to stand outside the Campbell house and a J McMaster for his namesake's saddlers!

We really liked being on the replica ship but didn't think we would have enjoyed sharing four to a bunk for over ten weeks, especially with those around us being seasick! After lunch we explored the American side and saw the pumpkins and corn growing and the different style of log cabins. We learned a lot and enjoyed our day.
