P7AS Potato Picking Project

2nd Oct 2019

As part of our ‘Hunger’ topic, we have been learning about the famine in Ireland in the 1800s.  We have been discussing how important the potato was for the people in Ireland at that time.  Last year, our P7s planted potatoes and they are now ready to harvest!  Our class went out to the trough box with Charlotte and learned lots more facts about potatoes before digging some up and bringing them inside.

We we all got an opportunity to wash the potatoes with the potato scrubber and then Charlotte boiled them for us to taste.  We all agreed that they were very tasty with the butter and a pinch of salt!

Many thanks to Charlotte for sharing her expertise and for preparing our potatoes for consumption; have a look at our photos!
