P7AS Dead Sea Float Experiment

22nd Apr 2021

As we are coming to the end of our Titanic topic, we were thinking about floating and sinking and why some things float and some things sink in water.

We carried out some research into the Dead Sea and discovered that it has about a 33% salt content and no plants or fish can survive in it.  We also discovered that it is actually a lake and is the deepest one on earth.

Today we designed and carried out an experiment to prove that objects can float more easily in salty water than freshwater.  We used eggs, salt, water and containers.  We learned a lot and really enjoyed this activity!
