We discussed how the Vikings kept food fresh and then wondered where they would get their salt.

We set up an experiment to investigate!

We added salt to water until the solution was dissolved and saturated! Then we watched for a couple of weeks and discovered that the water evaporated and salt crystals remained! They looked amazing! Especially under a magnifying glass!
