P5JD Density Challenge

17th Jan 2022

Today we found out about density and how it makes items float or sink. We predicted which items would float or sink in water such as a 5p coin and a lemon.

We were really surprised that a lemon floated! We were then giving a challenge to try and figure out when how to make the lemon sink. It didn’t take us too long to realise that peeling the lemon and cutting it into smaller segments would cause it to sink. This was because the molecules in the segments were denser than the water and so sank.

So far, we are really enjoying our water topic!
