P4JC Eco Day 2026! 🪴🌻🏵️

24th Apr 2026

P4JC had a fantastic Eco Day - the sun was shining and we had lots of fun together!

Everyone came to school wearing something green and we brought a charity donation for both the RSPB and the USPCA.

We had 2 super P6 Eco helpers for the day - Jaxson and Scarlett.

We began Eco Day making bug hotels out of recycled materials - milk cartons, newspaper and kitchen roll tubes.

Next, we went outside to our planter boxes with Mrs Anderson.

Everyone had made a flower shaped butterfly feeder which we hung on the fences.

We worked with P4AML to make colourful log slice bees which we put into our planting boxes.

Mrs Anderson showed us a nest that had fallen out of a tree and shared lots of Eco and plant information.

One of our planting boxes is a Minibeast area with a bug hotel and lots of Alpine plants to encourage the insects in.

Our second planter box is a sensory garden box with lots of plants that we can use our 5 senses to interact with.

We looked at the different colours and shapes of the plants, listened as the breeze moved through the leaves, felt the different textures of foliage, smelt some herbs and even tasted some mint!

After break we went outside to the outdoor classroom and woodland area for our RSPB Workshop which was led by Jaxson and Scarlett.

They talked to us about how to look for and identify minibeasts and birds. We went on a bug hunt and enjoyed using the binoculars to get a closer look at some birds (and each other!). We even saw a Robin eating a worm -  'it's like spaghetti!'

Next we went to the Play Park with P4AML and had lots of fun connecting with our friends in the sun!

After lunch we went to the greenhouse to plant sunflower seeds in recycled bottle pots. We were also given a packet of sunflower seeds each to take home and plant.

Lastly we completed our Eco colouring competitions.

We really enjoyed Eco Day 2026!
