P3 Class Trip to Streamvale Farm

21st May 2019

On Tuesday the 21st May we had the  Primary 3 class trip to Streamvale Farm in Dundonald. Two very excited classes set off at half nine for the long bus journey to the farm. When we arrived we were treated to juice and biscuits in the picnic area. Then our guides arrived and we were split up into smaller groups to go on a tour of the farm. We saw lots and lots of animals - hens, ducks, peacocks, pigs, sheep, cows, rabbits and even deer! We all had a turn to feed a lamb and got to stroke a chick, a duckling and a baby rabbit. The guide taught us that a baby rabbit is called a kitten. We met some really cute puppies and some of us even got to watch them in the training area. They were really funny! We were allowed to feed the deer, the chickens and the ducks on our walk around.

We learned that Streamvale is a working diary farm with around 300 cows. We saw the milking parlour and the guides explained how everything worked. Did you know that the cows are given oranges and lemons as a treat in the milking parlour? It helps to sweeten their milk. We were also shown the large tank where the milk is stored before it is taken to the diary. It was a a bit smelly!

After our tour of the farm we all had a rest and enjoyed eating our lunches outside in the sun. When we had finished eating we had a chance to play and visit the shop before we had to get back on the bus to return to school. It really was the best day ever!!!
