Our Exciting Eco Event 🌳🐝

26th Apr 2024

Today P6 took part in the whole school Eco Day, learning about pollinators. Our focus was on Honeybees and how they use pollination to help the plants around us and how they create honey for us too.

During our visit from Deborah (a beekeeper), we found out that honeybees are very useful and smart insects, they have lots of different methods to transport pollen and to keep themselves safe in order to create the honey we love to eat.

Mid and East Antrim Council also visited us to help us make bird feeders and biodegradable flowers pots.

We created our own bees, planted seeds for new flowers to grow and pulled out the fresh rhubarb to take home too.

During our active wildlife walk, we took notice of our school grounds and the animals that live there, we connected with each other and talked about what we could see.

We had a great day learning about honeybees and it was a perfect day to link our activities to our Take 5 initiative.
