'Keeping Safe' With P7RA

12th Feb 2019

Last week was a very busy one for our class but we had time to find out lots of important information about our PDMU theme of 'Keeping Safe'. Our first lesson was about the dangers of Cyberbullying, which was well timed as it occurred on Tuesday 5th February, also known as Safer Internet Day! We then chose our own level and completed a homework project over three nights based on the same theme. We also listened to and participated in Assemblies led by Mrs McMaster and Miss Scott. Later in the week, we drew up our own Internet Safety Rules and considered how cyberbullying and things we see on social media could affect our self-esteem and mental health, linking in with Children's Mental Health Week.

A further part of our week's activities was having the choice of producing a poster, cartoon strip or short story/poem to highlight one of the key 'Keeping Safe' messages we have learned this year. However, the twist was it had to be accessible to Foundation Stage children, so we had to think hard about the way we presented it and the language we used. We hope to share these with P1/P2 soon. Finally, we researched and discussed several organisations who aim to help children suffering from various forms of abuse.

This was a very important series of lessons and hopefully we will all remember the significant information we discovered.
