Sustrans ‘Gold Award’ Presentation on ‘Ditch the Dark’ Day!

21st Jan 2022

Friday 21st January was a special day in Camphill PS! Not only were we able to have our annual 'Ditch the Dark Day' at school we also were presented with our Gold award for being an ‘outstanding’ Sustrans school and have become the first school in Ballymena to achieve this Gold award!

On ‘Ditch the Dark’ day we come to school dressed in our brightest clothes and accessories to raise awareness of the 'Be Bright, Be Seen' message when we are out and about during the darker mornings and evenings. Be warned - You might need your sunglasses on to look at our wonderful class pictures as they are so bright!

Well done to all the boys & girls and staff in Camphill and to those past pupils who are now in Year 8&9 as you ALL helped Camphill achieve this special award! We were delighted to welcome Johnny from Sustrans into school to present us with our Gold Award plaque and certificate in person as we had a long wait for it! We actually achieved this back in May 2020 but with all of the restrictions in place, we were not able to get the actual award when it was achieved.

Congratulations also goes to Mrs McCullagh who leads up the Sustrans programme for all her hard work and what an achievement to know we were the first school in Ballymena to be awarded Gold, and that we were the 6th in the North East region to be awarded Gold!

Well done to everyone for all of their hard work and enthusiasm over the last number of years! Please have a look at Johnny's video on our homepage from May 2020 to remind you all of the activities that we did to achieve such a prestigious award!

We are now looking forward to getting back to all of our regular events and activities for Sustrans in the Spring and Summer term. Watch this space for the next event!
