ESB Science Blast 2019

6th Jun 2019

Today a small group of P7s set off to the Waterfront in Belfast to participate in the ESB Science Blast 2019. ESB Science Blast is designed to develop STEM skills by investigating a simple question about the world around us. The question that we chose to investigate was - Do we have a dominant side? The group of P7s consisted of Annie, Ellie, Callum, Peter, Korbyn, Curtis and Joshua. Under the direction of classroom assistant Charlotte, the children have been working hard for the last few weeks, testing, collating data and drawing conclusions about whether or not we have a dominant side.

What a day we had! When we arrived in Belfast we had to work hard to get our stand set up ready for the judges to view. When the two judges arrived at our stand they asked us some tricky questions about our experiments and conclusions. The judges were able to get actively involved in the different tests that we had set up on our stand. The judges told us that we would get feed back later on in the day.

So then we were all able to relax and enjoy the rest of the show by attending two interactive exhibits ' Litter Lab' and 'Gastronaut EXTREME'. After lunch we got the opportunity to have a look at the many class investigations on display in the exhibition area. We also got to have a look around and try out some of the fun activities such as a Virtual Reality Pig Farm!!

Just before we had to leave, the judges came to give us feedback and also presented us with a Science Blast trophy to take back to school. The feedback was extremely positive and the judges were particularly impressed with how everyone had worked together as a team and also how well we had used technology to explore our question. Everyone really enjoyed participating in the Science Blast show and all returned to school this afternoon feeling very proud of our achievements! Take a look at our iMovie made by Annie and Ellie which was on display on our stand today.
