Areas of Measurement

9th Jan 2020

Wow! Our brains were working overtime today. We thought about different areas of measurement- would you measure the distance to Belfast in grammes? Would we measure out flour in miles? Of course not! So we had to establish a few facts in our minds.

We broke measurement down into these three areas -WEIGHT     LENGTH    CAPACITY

Then we talked about units of measurement within each area.

We  completed some practical work. Mrs. McLarnon asked us to measure various items using cubes. All good here , so it seemed. But...... we were getting different answers. Could it be it was because we were using different sized cubes? Right, we got the message. We need to use a standard unit to measure length. THIS IS A FACT FOR LIFE THAT WE WILL ALWAYS NEED TO REMEMBER.
