⚽️ Fantastic Footballers ⚽️

9th Mar 2023

Today saw 7 of Camphill’s footballers go up against some of the best schools in Ballymena in a very competitive 5-a-side tournament at Antrim Forum.

After our recent 9-a-side tournament the players went into today with confidence that we’re improving as a team every game and that hard work pays off.

We started the day in excellent fashion beating Kirkinriola 9-0 (goals from Jude x3, Luke x2 and one each from Josh, Riley, James and Alfie, meaning all outfield players scored in our first game).

Next up we played against a good Gracehill team, we came back from 1 nil down to secure a 2-1 win (Josh scoring both goals).

Our 3rd game seen us play a Diamond team who were very strong and contenders for progressing to the semi-final. In this game we suffered our first defeat (3-1, goal from Jude), having said that we were in the game the whole time and we were just undone by some excellent finishing.

The tough games continued as we came up against Carniny team who have beaten us in every competition so far this year. We took a fantastic 2 goal lead and held on to win the game 2-1 (goals from Jude x2).

Having won 3 out of 4 games we now had an opportunity to progress to the semi-finals but we had 2 games left against Ballymena and St Colmicilles first, both who have beaten us previously in other competitions. We managed a hard fought win against Ballymena (2-1, goals from Jude and Luke). We then followed that up with a 1-1 draw in our final game against St Colmcilles (goal from James).

This meant we finished on 13 points with only 1 defeat and finished 2nd in our group, progressing to the semi-finals. In our semi-final we played against group 2 winners Buick who hadn’t lost a game all day. This game was extremely tight and we found ourselves 3-1 down after taking a 1 goal lead. We fought back to bring it to 3-3 and even had a penalty saved which would have put us back in the lead. Buick continued to play well and scored another 2 goals to win the game 5-3.

Despite missing out on a place in the final each of our players held their heads high as they put in an amazing amount of work rate and great team play to finish in the top 4 of a tournament containing 14 teams in total. Well done today boys.

Congratulations to Ballykeel who were the eventual winners, beating Buick in the final.

Total goals today - 20

  • Jude - 10
  • Luke - 3
  • Josh - 3
